Twitter has started banning fake accounts allegedly owned by Amazon employees who claim to be against union formation.
The fake accounts use stock or synthetic images as profile pictures and speak opposed union formation at the tech giant.
The author behind the now banned account @AmazonFCDarla said she didn’t want unions because they « want to come to Amazon and make them part of my salary ».
Amazon says this account, created earlier this month, was fake and reported it to Twitter.
It comes after Amazon stepped up its own online advocacy group against unions in its large warehouses and fulfillment centers / p> The company’s Twitter account recently spoke to US politicians about the problem.
« You don’t really believe how to pee in bottles, do you? » wrote the official @AmazonNews Twitter account last week in response to a tweet from a Wisconsin Democratic Congressman.
« If that were true, no one would work for us. The truth is, we have over a million incredible employees worldwide who take pride in what they do and have excellent wages and healthcare from day one. “
This tweet was in response to widespread reports that employees were forced to urinate in bottles because their warehouse schedules were so tight that toilet breaks are not always possible.
Amazon’s CEO Dave Clark , has also started arguing publicly with politicians criticizing Amazon’s working conditions.
Last week he taunted US Senator Bernie Sanders on Twitter for traveling to Alabama to support union efforts.
Amazon encourages its employees to defend the company online, offering a day of paid holiday and a $ 50 Amazon voucher for those who do.
