Adam Ottavino’s disappointing tenure with the Yankees is over – and he’s joining the Red Sox.
The right-handed man was brought to Boston on Monday, a source confirmed. The Red Sox absorbed most of the $ 9 million owed Ottavino, who enters the final year of his $ 27 million three-year contract.
The Yankees had tried to get 35-year-old Ottavino to do the Release payroll as they wanted to stay below the luxury tax threshold of $ 210 million this season.
The loss of Ottavino leaves the Yankees with Aroldis Chapman, Zack Britton and Chad Green at the back end of the Bullpen. After Jameson Taillon, Corey Kluber and DJ LeMahieu joined last week, they have another open place on the 40-man roster.
Ottavino was successful in his first season with the Yankees when he was 1, 90 ERA completed. But he fought back in September that season and was terrible against the Astros in the ALCS.
And Ottavino had a tough 2020 season when he had an ERA of 5.89 in 24 games and played no role in the playoffs. He only threw up once and allowed a run in ⅔ of an inning in the loss of Yankees’ Game 2 to the Rays to the ALDS.
« I want to stay on the team. I want to prove my worth. I want to do well, ”Ottavino told The Post’s Ken Davidoff in December.
“I want to finish what we’ve tried for the past few years and win this title and all of that. It is not up to me. So I really don’t pay attention to it. «
