Paul George returned to Pandemic P for a game during the LA Clippers season opener.
All in all, it was a very good first quarter for the LA Clippers at the 2020-21 NBA season opener on Tuesday night. Against defending champions Los Angeles Lakers, the Clippers unleashed a few months of pent-up anger that was left over from their disappointing second-round playoff collapse.
Paul George, one of the biggest no-shows during this conference semifinal series, was instrumental in the Clippers’ chokes job, and the self-proclaimed nickname « Playoff P » quickly became a running joke of « Pandemic P ». on NBA Twitter.
The season opener was a different story though, with the Clippers taking a 39:19 lead at the end of the first quarter. Paul George contributed quietly on the statistics sheet, scoring 3 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal with a plus / minus of plus-16.
However,
Pandemic P couldn’t help but raise its ugly head at a memorable opening game game when PG didn’t see ghosts in the corner for anyone with that flawed pass:
In George’s defense, that silly revenue didn’t affect the flow of the game in any way for the first quarter, which was all in Clippers’ favor. While it’s amusing, he must have thought that Luke Kennard would run after him during the quick break and go into the corner, and while it was fun to watch the referee try to get out of the line of fire, PG saw good early on out.
The Clippers seem to be looking for blood after failing to make the predetermined matchup « Battle of LA » in the Western Conference finals, especially since they had to drive the Lakers to a championship relatively uncontrolled. Hopefully these types of headless games won’t show up when every ball possession matters in a potential playoff streak.
