Failed power lines on Carrollton Avenue have shut down Interstate 10 in both directions, traffic officials said at 10 a.m.. m. Thursday. Drivers should expect major delays from downtown New Orleans to Metairie.

I-10 East is closed on Metairie Road and traffic will be secured until I-10 / I-610 split. DOTD tweeted at 10:30 a.m.. m.

I-10 West is closed on Carrollton Avenue. Traffic is delaying until O’Keefe Avenue on the Pontchartrain Expressway, according to DOTD.

Authorities did not say what caused the failed power lines blocking six lanes.

There was no immediate estimate of when the highway would reopen. Motorists should use an alternative route, authorities said.
