George Gerdes, the quirky singer-songwriter who became a character actor and who played a few good men, single white female, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The X-Files and Bosch, among others, has died. He was 72 years old.
Gerdes died in a Glendale hospital on New Year’s Day after suffering a brain aneurysm on New Year’s Eve, life partner Julia Johns told The Hollywood Reporter.
Gerdes played a Brooklyn gangster in pursuit of Michael Keaton in The Squeeze (1987), a dogsled Swede in Iron Will (1994), and a vigilante in the 1992 Seinfeld episode « The Bubble Boy ». «
In 2020, he portrayed President Dwight Eisenhower in Christopher Munch’s science fiction drama The 11th Green, and appeared in episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and the restarted Perry Mason.

He later played the construction supervisor in Single White Female (1992), a fiery preacher from the south in an episode of The X-Files from 1994, and a detective in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011). .
He has also appeared in films such as Amistad (1997), Hidalgo (2004) and Rumor Has It … (2005) as well as in series such as Miami Vice, Nash Bridges, Hunter, NYPD Blue, Walker, Texas Ranger and Cold Case, NCIS, ER, Lost and True Blood.
The survivors also include his sister Julia and nephews Zachary, Michael and Will. A celebration of his life is planned for the future without COVID. Donations in his name can go to the Meher Spiritual Center.
