World News – US – LUNE Galaxy Snap extended slippage with 1-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps

LOS ANGELES – Coach Marc Dos Santos says’ unbelievable error’ by referee was a game-changer for his Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday night

« It’s heartbreaking Everyone in the dressing room feels that We deserve to (finish) with at least one more point, » Dos Santos said after the loss

The match looked destined to end in a scoreless draw until referee Victor Rivas called Vancouver’s Russell Teibert for unsportsmanlike behavior in the 89th minute

MONECarlos Harvey had just fallen into a challenge with Teibert, but the Caps midfielder categorically disagreed that the game was a foul

An explosion from MOON Sniper Cristian Pavon came off the crossbar, but the Galaxy kept possession in the end of the Caps Moments later, Kai Koreniuk smashed a bullet from Pavon in time to stop to break MOONSlip losing six games

« It’s just disappointing to me that (referee call) essentially leads to a goal, » said Teibert. « Instead of one team beating the other, a decision by an official leads to a decisive moment at the end of the match, at the end of the match »

The ‘unfair’ call could have big implications in the hotly contested Western Conference of Major League Soccer, Teibert added

The Whitecaps (7-12-0) currently sit last in the playoffs, but several teams are vying for postseason spots and the one point that comes with a tie could make the difference in the end of the regular season

« This is one of those results that we could come back to in a few weeks by saying: » This point could have been important « Every point by the end of the season counts », a declared Teibert

Dos Santos said his team could have been sharper offensively at times, and noted that although they controlled 546% possession they could have created more scoring chances

« When you play every three days and travel it’s normal… that (fatigue) could come in and be a factor But I still think we were lucky to win the game », a- he declared

Galaxy goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann made five saves to reclaim his first MLS clean sheet on Sunday

On the other end of the field, Evan Bush was a force in Vancouver’s net, stopping four of five shots on target

His first test came soon after Caps defender Jake Nerwinski slipped through midfield in the sixth minute, allowing Pavon to recover the ball

Pavon went head-to-head with Bush and the Caps goalie took a dive, stops with his fingertips, then quickly bounced back to make a second save

Bush felt his team did not move the ball as quickly as they could have done on Sunday and were not as decisive as they needed to be

« I think we really needed to be smarter about how we killed the game, » he said. « We didn’t handle the last 15 minutes of the game well, I’d say »

A loss would likely have ended the club’s hope for the playoffs and made the crowded Western Conference a little more manageable, Bush said

« Emotionally, spiritually I think they were dead in the water, » he said. « We concede two minutes to the end of the game and give them hope. And that’s a shame »

The Whitecaps will now have some breathing space, with most players returning to Vancouver for a few days before returning to the team’s temporary home in Portland, where they will host the San Jose earthquakes on Saturday

Even with Sunday’s loss, ‘Caps still have high hopes of making the playoffs, Bush said

“We’re still in a position where things are in our hands,” he said. “When we come back we know there are tough games ahead and we’re going to have to prepare for them. better to be where we are and fight for something at this point rather than just dragging out the season and not really hoping for anything «

NOTES: LUNEPerry Kitchen received a yellow card in added time in the first half after beating Vancouver’s Lucas Cavallini He will miss next Saturday’s game against Los Angeles FC as he serves a suspension for accumulation yellow cards… The Whitecaps finalized the transfer of Serbian center-back Ranko Veselinovic on Sunday, signing the 21-year-old until 2023 Veselinovic initially joined Vancouver on loan from FK Vojvodina in the Serbian SuperLiga in February
