BYU, Masen Wake 8-yard touchdown pass from Zach Wilson (10:35), Tyler Allgeier pass from Zach Wilson

BYU survived their toughest test of the season, dropping 12 points behind in the third quarter to beat Houston 43-26 at TDECU Stadium in Houston on Friday night

Zach Wilson led a strong BYU offensive attack again, as the visitors scored the game’s final t29 points to end the fight and give BYU their most impressive victory of the season

It was a big night for BYU’s Wilson and Houston’s Clayton Tune, perhaps suitable for a two-program game known for their strong quarterback play

Wilson ended the game completing 25 of 35 passes for 400 yards – his first 400-yard passing game of his career – and four touchdowns Tune, meanwhile, racked up 310 passing yards and two touchdowns while completing 21 of 31 passes

Wilson had two big runs – a 32 yards in the first quarter to prepare for his second touchdowns and a 24 yards in the fourth quarter with less than five minutes left that allowed for a key touchdown – to help the hasty BYU attack

Wilson’s roommate Dax Milne was his favorite target, as Milne finished the game with nine catches for 184 yards and three touchdowns. This included a 78-yard score on BYU’s first offensive play of the game and a 18 yards to put BYU 10 with just over three minutes to go

A courageous call from BYU coaches played a big part in the rally, with visitors opting to kick late in the third quarter after reducing their deficit to 26-21

BYU’s Talmage Gunther recovered the kick in play, and as the BYU drive stalled and he had to kick, he nailed Houston deep and gained momentum in the game.

After a three-and-out from Houston helped by penalties against the home team, BYU secured a favorable position by starting their next possession at Houston 23 after a 13-yard punt BYU turned that into points, scoring on an 8-yard touchdown from Masen Wake on a nice little pass from Wilson

After Houston scored a basket in their first practice, BYU built a 14-3 lead and forced Houston to kick back in a row Over the next two quarters, however, Houston scored on four straight possessions – including three touchdowns – to take a 26-14 lead. Two of those touchdowns were over 90 yards

The BYU defense, however, escalated in the last quarter Houston ended the game with 438 yards in total offense – not far behind BYU’s 478 – but Houston only had 20 yards in the last quarter. Tune completed just 1 of 7 assists in the fourth, and the BYU defense came up with two sacks and forced three consecutive kicks and a roll on lows before Houston ran out of time in its last practice.

After what appeared to be BYU’s first loss of the season, BYU’s offensive, defensive and special teams are all making big plays to complete a comeback for the visitors

For the first time since 1991 (with Ty Detmer at quarterback) BYU played four straight games without an interception throw

BYU makes it a 17-point game as Tyler Allgeier scores on a 14-yard run after Houston failed to convert a fourth deep in its own turf

BYU kicks off key practice, passing 57 yards on six plays to forge a 10-point lead behind Zach Wilson hits Dax Milne with a penny for an 18-yard touchdown pass, Milne’s third score of the night
