Harare [Zimbabwe] / Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], 13 November (ANI / BusinessWire India): The Merck Foundation, the charitable arm of Merck KGaA in Germany, is celebrating « World Diabetes Day 2020 » by continuing its strategy to provide training The specialist for African, Asian and Latin American physicians to improve the management of diabetes, hypertension and endocrine glands. Dr. Rasha Clegg, CEO of the Merck Foundation and one of the 100 most influential Africans (2019, 2020), explained, “At the Merck Foundation, we celebrate ‘World Diabetes Day’ every day by offering a one-year diploma and a two-year master’s degree in Diabetes and Endocrinology.. And preventive cardiovascular medications for physicians as part of the Merck Foundation’s « Diabetes Blue Points Program » in partnership with African First Women, ministries of health and medical associations. I am very proud to announce that about 500 doctors from 39 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America have enrolled in these courses. Our goal is to improve access to quality and equitable care for diabetes, hypertension and endocrinology across three continents. We will expand to more countries next year. Merck Foundation offers a one-year postgraduate diploma and two-year master’s degree in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Preventive Cardiovascular Medicines from a university from the United Kingdom. The Merck Foundation also enrolls clinicians on the ‘Master Course in Clinical Management of Diabetes’ in four languages - English, French, Portuguese and Spanish, which has been endorsed by the Diabetes Foundation UK to improve access to quality and equitable patient care in African and Latin American countries. So far, Merck has already registered 491 candidates for these courses from 39 African and Asian countries including Bangladesh, Botswana, Burundi, Central African Republic, Cambodia, Cameroon, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Jenny Conakry, Indonesia, Kenya, Liberia, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Vietnam, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Some of these countries did not have a diabetes doctor before such as in Liberia where the Merck Foundation together without a Liberian First Lady provides specialized training to acquire the first public-sector diabetes doctors in Liberia..
