Mothers across the country know the struggle of getting their children outside to take action – especially during quarantine. As a mother of two, Jennifer Lopez is no exception.
« I think we were all a little afraid of the kids sitting in front of their electronics all day during the quarantine, » Lopez told CBS News.
Like many parents, the singer and actress had to come up with fun ways to get their children moving. Lopez, mother of 12-year-old twins Max and Emme, said she would throw painting parties outside or let the family play wiffelball.
The benefit of staying at home was that there was more time to spend with family. « For the quarantine and the house it was just spending time together, making a movie and having dinner together every night, which we can’t always do, and I think a lot of families don’t get to do that as often as they want » , she said.
While 2020 has been difficult for many, Lopez has advice on how to stay positive. « When I’m in pain or things are tough, I feel more positive about myself and an attitude of gratitude is key to realizing that life will be okay, » she said. « I’m just grateful for the things we have and that’s how I keep us informed. «
She also has advice for people who can give back this year: Support Lids to Feed America.
Dairy products are « one of the most sought-after and least-donated products among food banks in America, » said Lopez. « Yoplait’s Lids Feeding American campaign is helping Feeding America members’ food banks raise funds for communities to have access to essential foods and nutrients such as dairy products. «
« Dairy products are one of the foods that really help our kids get strong and play for a long time, » added Lopez.
Feeding America, a network of 200 food banks and 60. 000 pantries and dining programs, reports the number of children suffering from hunger can rise to 18 million, or 1 in 4 children overall, during the pandemic.
The US food bank diet is a lifeline for many families facing food insecurity. The organization estimates that more than 50 million Americans will be starving by 2020 – up from around 35 million before the coronavirus pandemic.
Black and Hispanic families are particularly hard hit, with food insecurity rates even worse this year.
Lopez said one way to help food banks is simple: « You just buy your favorite Yoplait products with the labeled packaging or gold lids on them. Once you get home, you can simply scan your receipt and send it to YopliatLids. com and put in your zip code, « she said. « And for every eligible product submission, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Feeding America for up to 600. $ 000. «
Lopez said she joined the initiative because the food banks are in dire need of dairy products, and Lids to Feed America will help bring food « into the hands of the families who need it most. ». «
