Great Lakes Brewing Co Changes Its Annual First Party For Its Popular Christmas Release AleMarc Bona, Clevelandcom

CLEVELAND, Ohio – There is no end to the cancellations and postponements the coronavirus has inflicted this year Now this: Great Lakes Brewing Co’s annual Christmas Beer Festival First For is moved to a bookable event limited on site and at home

The party, which marks the launch of the brewery’s cult classic Christmas beer, is scheduled for Thursday October 22 The traditional fall event draws thousands of people and is the busiest day of the year in the brewery People dress in red and green clothes, from loud blazers to Santa hats to reindeer antlers; get out of work and wait hours before going through the door to raise a pint

Reservations are required and available now No walking or queuing will be allowed on the day of the event Indoors, standing will not be permitted and guests must wear a mask when not not seated

The brewpub will be open 10am to 10pm and feature holiday decor, special dishes and music

The brewery also offers a First Pour at Home take-out experience Pre-order packages will be available for collection at the gift shop on the day of the event Packages range from one crowler (32-ounce can) of Christmas Ale to the Ultimate First Pour at Home package, which includes a 1/6 barrel keg of beer, glassware, limited edition merchandise and more Pre-orders will start 10 am Monday, Oct 12

Christmas beer will be available in the gift shop starting Friday Oct 23, with retail distribution starting Monday Oct 26

The beer, which is worth 75% alcohol, is brewed with cinnamon, ginger and 200,000 pounds of honey.It has been out since 1992 and is a huge seller, only ranking behind the flagship Dortmunder Gold in sales, although it is a seasonal beer

Coronavirus restrictions in place will end – at least for this year – what has become a day of celebration in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland

In the past, a line would form around the brewery, never ceasing to amaze Pat Conway, one of the brewery’s co-founders who mingles with waiting guests in all weathers Inside, the party vibe is filled with costumed drinkers and festive decorations, and previous essay and photo contests have drawn plenty of entries from people hoping to win the coveted beer inaugural installment year after year.
