Prince William and Kate Middleton have announced the death of their’ dear ‘dog Lupo at the age of nine and expressed their deep sadness over the loss.
The black cocker spaniel was a wedding present from Kate’s brother James and was a staple on family outings and photos.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, the royal couple wrote: “Very sad that our dear dog Lupo passed away last weekend.
« He has been the heart of our family for nine years and we will miss him so much. ‘
Lupo was bred by a dog owned by Kate’s parents Michael and Carole Middleton named Ella and who survived him.
Her brother James wrote, “Nothing can ever prepare you for the loss of a dog. For those who have never had a dog before, understanding the loss could be difficult.
“But for those who have loved a dog, the truth is known: a dog is not just a pet; It’s a family member, best friend, loyal companion, teacher, and therapist. ‘
« For most, losing a dog is in almost every way comparable to losing a loved one, » he continued, adding that the news of Lupo’s death « brought back a surge of emotions » when his first dog lost Year 2017.
Mr Middleton, 33, said he prayed, lit a candle and took Ella for a walk in memory of Lupo.
Lupo appeared in the first official photo of Prince George after he was born in 2013 and has been spotted alongside the family many times since then.
His arrival in the family was reportedly planned to facilitate Prince William’s departure to the Falkland Islands in early 2012 for a six-week stint, just under a year after the royal wedding.
A guest at a 2018 Kensington Palace Christmas party for RAF families this year told People Magazine, “When Prince William was in the Falkland Islands, he went to dinner with some good Air Force friends and he said how difficult it was it was for Kate because he went for six weeks. It was when they had just got the spaniel to help her with the break.
