The latest news, views and transfer rumors from Arsenal ahead of the Gunners’ return to the Premier League against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday night
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says Nicolas Pepe’s performance in the 3-0 win over Molde was an « example » of the level he can achieve.
The winger, who was sent off for a reckless headbutt in the Leeds United defeat last weekend, scored a striking result as the Gunners confirmed their spot in the Europa League knockout stage.
When asked about Pepe’s influence on Molde, Arteta said: « We all know how high his level is. The question is always how often he can reach this level and how often he can contribute to other aspects of the game.
« Today is the example. It has to be the level he needs to reach and from there on he has to keep improving because he is able to. «
Pepe publicly apologized following his red card on Elland Road and will not be available for Arsenal’s next three league games.
« After the disappointment, you want to see something special quickly and I could see from the minute that his body language was ready to act, » Arteta added.
« I think he had a great performance. He scored a goal. He could have scored another goal or two, had some great moments in the game and worked really hard for the team. I liked it very much and I’m very happy about it. ”
Arsenal fans used social media after Arsenal’s Europa League win against Molde to congratulate Folarin Balogun on his first goal for the club.
The 19-year-old forward scored just 37 seconds after being introduced as a substitute in the second half and opened his account on his second appearance with the Gunners.
Balogun has been the subject of speculation about a possible exit. His contract expires next year, but Arsenal fans clearly expect the youngster to have a bright future and some even want him to start ahead of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.
Arsenal added eight academics to their squad to beat Molde 3-0 in the Europa League.
