A man was hospitalized after an explosion hit his home in West Lothian this morning.

Police, rescue workers and fire teams pushed into Whitburn around 9 a.m.. 30 o’clock after a house « exploded ».

Concerned locals said they heard « a bang » on Dixon Road when a house on the street exploded.

One affected resident said a house on the street had been « blown up » while another added that the area smelled of « electricity / gas ».

Pictures show a window that is blown out in front of the house on the first floor. Others show flames and smoke rising from a gaping hole in the back of the building.

The man whose house exploded was hospitalized. It is not clear if he or anyone else was seriously injured in the incident.

Cops have locked the scene and told the locals to stay out of the area. The force launched a probe into the incident.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: « Around 9. At 30:00 in the morning, police and emergency services were called to a report of an explosion in a house on Dixon Road, Whitburn.

« The male head of household was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he is treated by medical staff. There are currently no details of his injuries – if any.
