ARSENAL legend Ian Wright has admitted he was devastated when goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez left for Aston Villa this summer.
The Argentine goalkeeper went to Villa for an initial £ 17million in September because he didn’t want to be second choice with the Gunners.
And his decision has more than paid off, as Dean Smith did not concede a goal again in the 1-0 win against Wolves.
The 28-year-old has monitored five failures for the soaring mansion this season, and Wright expressed disappointment with his Emirates exit.
When talking about the game of the day, the former striker wanted to see Martinez stay in north London but understood why he had to leave.
He said: « I was devastated when he left Arsenal but he wants to be Argentina number one.
« He has conceded five goals from nine Premier League games and is just a very good goalkeeper.
Martinez spent nine years at Arsenal helping them win the FA Cup last season when he took on the injured Bernd Leno.
And Martinez claimed last month his move from Arsenal to Villa was a step up – not down, as many originally claimed.
“They all said it was a step down in my career, but I always said it was a step up. ”
