A close advisor to US President Donald Trump was spotted in the White House clutching a piece of paper that appeared to be urging the most powerful man in the world to invoke « martial law ».
Michael Lindell, the founder and CEO of MyPillow, was photographed outside the west wing prior to meeting Mr Trump on Friday clutching a typed memo that was partially obscured by a crease.
However, some of what was on the memo was visible. Here is what you could see.
« … Resurrection law now as a result of the attack on … martial law, if necessary, at the first hint of a … »
The memo also includes the names of Sidney Powell, an attorney who worked on Trump’s legal campaign to overturn the election results, and Bill Olson, a Florida Republican who lost in the November election.
A proposed transcription of the memo also appears to recommend « Move Kash Patel to CIA Acting » to Mr. Trump. Mr. Patel is currently the acting Secretary of Defense.
It is extremely unlikely that the Insurrection Act will be applied and that martial law will be implemented in the United States.
Mr Lindell is a strong ally of the president and remained a vocal supporter after the siege of the Capitol last week that killed five people, including a Capitol police officer.
His bedding company, MyPillow, launched an online offer where buyers could get a discount by typing « FightForTrump » at the checkout. The discount was available on the day of the siege at the Capitol, where Mr. Lindell was attending the rally, according to the New York Times.
After the deadly riot, Mr. Lindell appeared on the far-right cable news channel Newsmax describing what had been found to be « very peaceful ».
Mr Trump was charged a second time after the violent uprising in the Capitol. The US House of Representatives voted in favor of the president’s charge of « inciting insurrection » 232-197.
