World news – The stars of Clippers huddle with Tyronn Lue to tackle crunch-time troubles

The guys who want the Clippers on the track with the ball are struggling: Paul George is 3 for 12 in clutch minutes and Kawhi Leonard is 7 for 25, which leads to a discussion about areas for improvement ...

The Clippers weren’t their best selves during the first half of the season during the crunch period. And like the fans scratching their heads at home, the members of the team have talked a lot about themselves too, said coach Tyronn Lue.

The numbers – as limited as they may be – describe the sad (previous) saga of the Clippers’ « clutch minutes » or what the NBA considered to be within the last five minutes of a game with a point difference of five points or describes less described.

The Clippers have the fifth best net rating in the league overall (plus -5.5), but they have the worst net rating in the league (minus 24.3) in clutch minutes when they only get 24 for 68 (35.3% ) of are the field. Thirty-eight of their coupling field goal attempts came from the 3-point range, of which only 13 were received.

Individually, the guys who want the Clippers with the ball on the track have done a lot of the missing: Paul George is 3 for 12 in clutch minutes when all but one of his shots have emerged from behind the bow.

The all-stars of the Clippers recently attributed their ineffective insult in clutch moments to a lack of speed. They suspected this had something to do with a lack of familiarity with one another and with lue in situations where they were so quick to resort to 3 point shots instead of pressing the rim and turning away from smaller guards Pick-and-aim -roll.

Lue thought it worth mentioning that his team’s experience with nail biters was limited: The Clippers have only played 41 minutes this season that qualify as Clutch, the 28th fewest in the NBA.

Lue said he and his team’s stars met before Thursday’s game in Washington, DC for a long discussion about how to improve in those tense minutes when a game was on Game stands.

“Just keep talking about it. Continue to show the film. Keep showing them what we want, what we expect – and whatever they like, ”said Lue. “And when you talked to PG and Kawhi yesterday, they came into my room for about an hour and a half and looked through different scenarios and situations, what they like, what they don’t, good shot, bad shot and just where they hit the ball want to have the floor and the distance.

« Were work. It won’t be perfect every time and it’s just things to build on. We don’t have a lot of clutch minutes this year and … if we see what happened, we can do it work, we can put people in the right places, we can see what Kawhi and PG like, and then go from there.  »

Patrick Patterson might be known as the Clippers « Just Add Water » weapon because they trust it will be good on the shelf after weeks. But Reggie Jackson has also proven to be a reliable prize hitter.

See Tuesday’s season high of 25 points for Leonard, who suffered a late scratch with back pain prior to the Clippers’ loss in Boston. Then Jackson got the call again at the last second on Thursday filling it out as a starter for George, who was dizzy.

In LA, Jackson – a 30-year-old security guard in his 10th NBA season – has taken on his role as reserve.

Early in his career, Jackson was determined to start and lead a team as a substitute for Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City – as Scott Brooks, now head coach of the Wizards, probably remembers.

Jackson got his wish when Thunder sold him to Detroit in 2015, where he signed a $ 80 million contract over a five-year period, during which he was often injured.

Before playing again on Thursday, Brooks pondered Jackson’s worth – as a willing, capable reserve – to the Clippers.

« He basically comes full circle, » said Brooks. « He was a backup player (in OKC), didn’t play much in his first year and then he got into the rotation, played good minutes and had a good role with us. »

« And then he was a starter in Detroit and struggled with injuries – injuries are serious. They are hard to fight and stay mentally sharp and physically bring you back to where you want (be).

« I think he’s here now. He has a nice little role on the team … a chance to play a lot of good minutes for her. »
