World news – The Sims 4 now have kits, a new way to buy DLC packs

The Sims 4 now have kits which are DLC sets smaller than Stuff or Game Packs and costing $ 5 / £ 5 / € 5.

The Sims 4 is already getting new content regularly through expansions, game packs, and stuff packs, but EA Maxis now sells kits as well. Kits are smaller packages that you can buy that add new features or elements to the simulation game for a long life. As of today, three are available.

They add in ’90s sporting goods, country style kitchen cabinets and dust, and each one brings you back $ 5 / £ 5 / € 5. Below is a trailer.

It is always dangerous to refer to the « community » of a game as if the players of a game were a monolithic group. The Sims 4 is a strong example. The series has a reputation among some for being nickel-and-diming players with dozens of paid expansions, and if you are, kits won’t change your mind. The comments below the video above show how some people are feeling and I suspect there will be similar comments below this post soon.

Look elsewhere, however, and there are plenty of Sims 4 players out there who are passionate about various things in these packs. Me? I play The Sims almost exclusively during recess, just to build fabulous homes, so a set of shabby-chic kitchen furniture is pretty compelling. I’ve seen others, the ones who actually want to play the game bits, talking about how cute the little dust bunny creatures are. Because the « dust » kit doesn’t just add inert dust heaps, see.

One comment I’ve seen many times that seems fair is that these kits are bigger news for console gamers than for people on PC, as PC gamers, other than dust bunnies, are already similarly small and focused on them Can access sets created by the community. For example, our pick for the best Sims 4 CC has tons of kitchen utensils and it’s all free.

The Sims 4 Country Kitchen Kit, Bust The Dust Kit, and Throwback Fit Kit are available now on Origin and Steam for USD 5 / GBP 5 / EUR 5. Future packages will be published individually. You can also see more of these kits on this archived developer Twitch stream from an hour ago.
