The largest illegal bazaar in the global dark network, which is compared to an eBay for criminals, was closed after its suspected mastermind was arrested in Germany.
Darkmarket had more than half a million users and 2,500 sellers, who exchanged illegal goods such as drugs, stolen credit card details, counterfeit money and hacking tools.
It went offline on Tuesday when the Australian who is believed to be its leader – identified as Julian K, 34 – tried to cross the border from Crossing Denmark.
More than 20 of its computer servers based in Ukraine and Moldova were also seized in an operation involving the German police, the FBI and Scotland Yard.
