The Pentagon announced on Friday that it would advance plans to rename military bases named after Confederate leaders by appointing four members to lead the effort.
Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller has appointed Sean McLean, a White House Assistant Director, Joshua Whitehouse, a White House Liaison with the Department of Defense, Ann Johnston, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs, and Earl Matthews, Assistant Attorney General for the Army.
The four will be on the dodgy Department of Defense Naming Equipment commemorating the Confederate States of America or those who have voluntarily served with the Confederate States.
The Commission is mandated under a $ 740 billion defense policy bill that went into effect when Congress voted to lift Trump’s veto on New Years Day.
President Trump has argued in the past that the removal of Confederate names from military bases means washing away history. In the meantime, President-elect Biden supports the removal of the names.
