World news – The last five seconds of Princess Diana’s royal wedding interview were very illuminating, says the interviewer

"Maybe at the end of the interview we should have read so much more in those five seconds. It could have told us so much more about what's to come."

Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage was not without its troubles – and according to one of Diana’s pre-wedding interviewers, we might all have missed a big hint of what was to come.

In 1981, the couple sat down married BBC news anchor Angela Rippon and Andrew Gardener from ITV for an interview. In a new interview for the Channel 5 documentary Charles and Di: The Truth Behind Their Wedding, Rippon reviewed the interview for the first time since 1981 and reflected on Princess Diana’s behavior in the run-up to her royal wedding.

Looking back, Rippon says that the look on Diana’s face at the end of the interview – a dejected look – could have said an incredible amount about what would come for her in royal life.

« With the knowledge of hindsight, you read so much more in body language, what was said, looks that were given, reactions, « said Rippon. « That’s worth looking back, isn’t it? But the final moments of the interview really catch her eye if she wishes the couple a lifetime of happiness. Charles looks at Diana, but she looks at the floor. That expression continues on Diana’s face in the end speaks volumes. Maybe we should have read so much more in those five seconds at the end of the interview. It could have told us so much more about what was to come. «
