According to a decision by the International Cricket Council on Thursday, women cricketers in Bangladesh are overjoyed that the country will achieve test status in women’s cricket.

During a meeting of the ICC board and committee which was practically carried out on Thursday, the cricket governing body decided to give all women’s teams in its full member states testing status.

Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, the Netherlands and Ireland are the 10 women’s teams that currently have test status.

Now the remaining three ICC full members Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe are to receive test status in women’s cricket.

« In the ICC board meeting yesterday [Thursday] took place, it was decided that all women’s teams in the full member countries would be granted test and ODI status, « said Towhid Mahmood, manager of the BCB women’s wing, on Friday Media.

The Bangladesh women’s team previously had one-day international status and only participated in white ball competitions.

Towhid also made it clear that the test status has not yet been officially handed over, but hopes that the formalities will be dealt with soon.

In the meantime, Minister of Youth and Sports, Zahid Ahsan Russell, congratulated the women’s team on the milestone.
