Formula E has announced that their night races in Saudi Arabia will take place as planned at the end of February and will be the opening round of the 2021 season.

This resulted in the Chilean government banning all non-UK residents from entering the country.

However, FE has now posted a very brief tweet on social media confirming that the event in Saudi Arabia will take place February 26-27.

The engagement comes a day after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson sat in front of the nation before a third lockdown prochen.

The announcement read: « Diriyah E-Prix will start the 7th season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with the first night races of Formula E on February 26th & 27 2021. »

That Saudi Arabian Interior Ministry suspended all international flights in and out of the country except in « exceptional cases » but lifted restrictions on January 3rd.

Travelers from a country where the new tribe was discovered – including the UK – must however, spend at least 14 days outside the affected country before entering Saudi Arabia.

The championship is still working with the Chilean government to postpone the races. The new date is originally planned for « later in the first quarter ».

The original schedule for the 2020-21 season was first published by FE and the FIA ​​in June, before being withdrawn as part of a heavily revised calendar announced in October with the Mexico City and Sanya E-Prix being postponed indefinitely.

All FE vehicles are currently in South America after being taken straight from pre-season testing at Circuit Ricardo Tormo earlier last month in Valencia.

BMW Andretti driver Maximilian Günther passed the test in Valencia that was completed last month.
