A 17-year-old is dead and a man is killed on the streets of Logan after a traumatic night.
Police said the teenager died after a Mitsubishi Lancer collided with a Holden Colorado shortly after midnight at the intersection of Beaudesert Beenleigh Rd and Belivah Rd, Bahrs Scrub.
The Lancer’s driver was trapped for more than an hour before being freed and taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in critical condition.
The three other passengers on the Lancer and four people in Holden Colorado escaped with minor injuries.
The road was closed for more than four hours and the police stayed at the scene on Sunday morning.
James Herbst, who lives in Beenleigh, said that when traffic was coming down the hill, heading south, the road angled left towards Bannockburn Rd.
« For a split second, those unfamiliar with the road can tell that cars approaching at that angle are turning left onto Bannockburn Rd, » he said.
« When they’re actually going straight. A split second wrong decision is all it takes, but the layout of an intersection can help make bad split-second decisions. »
It was a busy night for emergency services across Logan with another accident on Waterford-Tamborine Road at Quinzeh Creek Bridge in Logan Village where a car hit a pole shortly after 4:30 a.m.
A 24-year-old Logan man was trapped in the car for more than an hour before he was freed and taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and appealing to anyone with information or dashcam recordings of the incident to report.
