World news – Tassie’s Bird performs NSW for 32 in Shield

New South Wales was rolled for 32 - the lowest Sheffield Shield score ever - and the fast Tasmanian Jackson Bird had the best career at 7-18.

Jackson Bird scored a career best of 7:18 when Tasmania dismantled NSW for just 32, the lowest score ever at the Sheffield Shield.

The Blues lasted just 19 on day two at the Bellerive Oval , 3 minutes on either side of lunch in response to the Tigers’ first innings of 333.

It is the fourth-lowest result in the history of top-class competition in Australia, beating NSW’s worst ever of 53 against Tasmania in Hobart in 2007.

Only skipper Peter Nevill (10 not eliminated) made it into double digits when Bird wreaked havoc after smashing a career-best run-a-ball 54 with his racket.

The The 34-year-old has picked up three parts of the scalp in his first eight deliveries to get the blues going 3-0. Daniel Hughes, Daniel Solway and Kurtis Patterson all failed at the gate.

NSW collapsed at 5-17 at lunch and was all out shortly after when Bird ran by the tail.

Everything fell in favor of the 34- Yearlings, including an advantage over Trent Copeland, who threw off his hands on the third slip and was initially caught by Matthew Wade.

Bird, who has nine tests to his name, hit the 300 Shield wickets milestone with his fourth ball .

In shape all-rounder Sean Abbott didn’t beat after splitting the webbing on his hand on day one.

Tasmania added 75 runs to his overnight score of 7 to 258, with Tim Paine dropping to 87 – his equivalent first class result on home turf.

Bird took the long grip of a strong NSW attack and rounded off his half century with a straight six ahead of Copeland.

Mitchell Starc, Harry Conway and Copeland took three wickets each, while Nathan Lyon picked up Wade’s lonely scalp.

The Tigers are pursuing their first win of the Shield season, while NSW is second behind Queensland.
