Man of the Game: Danny Ings

The teams started the day on time and knew that a win would almost ensure their survival in the Premier League for another season. The visitors sped out of their traps on a sun-drenched day on the south coast.

Burnley, who undoubtedly benefited from his impressive 2-1 win at the soaring Everton before the international break, started the competition confidently and rightly advanced early, after the VAR referee directed Andre Marriner to watch Kyle Walker-Peters’ awkward challenge against Erik Pieters.

Southampton striker Danny Ings was back, leading the home lineup. The England international was sidelined with a leg problem at Sheffield United on March 6, while Theo Walcott was relegated to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s starting line-up after a thigh problem.

Sean Dyche has named an unchanged line-up after the 2-1 win at Everton three weeks ago.

The referee agreed with Jon Moss that it was a foul in which top scorer Wood – who was on penalties in the absence of Ashley Barnes – scored his seventh goal of the season as well as a club record of 41 in the Premier League.

One soon became two in typical Burnley fashion when Wood nodded from Ben Mee to Vydra, whose low punch somehow got past a flat Fraser Forster from outside the area.

But if the Clarets thought, that There were points in their pockets, they were wrong. The hosts responded with two goals of their own before the break, the first after a nice team move that ended with Ings’ wise dismissal and found Armstrong sweeping home from the edge of the box.

Then, three minutes before break, Walker-Peters’ hopeful release on the right sideline left Mee hesitant and allowed Ings to step in, and after selling a dummy to James Tarkowski, the striker made up for it with a composed finish through Nick Pope’s legs.

It Unsurprisingly, the second period failed to match the first 45 minutes, but it was Southampton who scored the crucial next goal after a period of concerted pressure forced several brilliant stops from Pope.

24 minutes before In the end, England international Ings’ goal from Theo Walcott, whose cross at the far post found the unmarked Redmond, could only hit well, and Fl ügelspielers completed the turnaround.

Both teams had great chances to score again late. Forster’s brilliant reaction stopped denying Wood when the Saints recorded their first home win in three months.

Burnley should really have known what was coming when the teams were announced at St. Mary’s and Danny Ings on the grid for the first time since a leg problem at Sheffield United on March 6th from Southampton.

Ings just loves to score against his previous clubs – just ask Liverpool, Bournemouth and the Clarets themselves, who have scored twice by Ings.

The England international was in the sun On Easter Sunday he helped to get his team back into the competition with delicious support for Armstrong’s goal, before he brought things into line himself with a wonderful solo effort shortly before the break.

And it was Ings ‘Shot that led to Southampton winners when the striker became only the fourth player in Premier League history to score four games in a row against previous teams.
