World news – Several serious injuries after a horror boat fire

Several people have been "badly" burned, including two fighting for their lives after a boat went up in flames north of Sydney tonight.

Eight people were treated for burns after a horror boat explosion on Easter Sunday in NSW.

Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene on Dangar Road to find that a small boat was « all in flames ».

Another four are in serious condition while two got away with minor injuries, a spokesman for NSW Ambulance said.

The injured were rushed to the Royal North Shore, Westmead and Gosford hospitals at 6:30 p.m., according to police.

The RFS was assisted by the crews from Fire and Rescue NSW in putting out the boat fire, but it was completely destroyed.

« We also have some HAZMAT crews out and about because of the fuel spill on the boat, » NSW’s superintendent, Fire and Rescue NSW, told NCA NewsWire shortly after 6pm. « This is quite a significant event. It is a significant event to have (this number of) people with severe burns. »

Emergency teams rushed to the scene after the houseboat exploded, and initial reports showed that several people had been injured.

NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, and NSW Rural Fire Service were all involved in the response on Dangar Island, a quirky island village near Brooklyn in Hawkesbury, north of Sydney.

It took firefighters almost an hour to put out the fire, and crews stayed on the scene at 7 p.m. to contain chemicals.

Locals on social media spotted the fire and were desperate to alert others to the danger.

« Six ambulances so far. Several fire engines and police cars. At least two helicopters. Something goes wrong. »
