The Indonesian Ministry of Transport has announced that a search and rescue investigation will be launched after a Sriwijaya Air jet with more than 50 people on board lost contact with aviation authorities.

The plane flew from the Indonesian capital Jakarta to Pontianak in West Kalimantan Province and lost contact shortly after take-off on Saturday.
Sriwijaya Air said in a statement that it is collecting more detailed information about the flight before it can make a statement.
