London: Former English wicket keeper Sarah Taylor will return to Professional Cricket in the Hundred after interrupting her career due to anxiety issues.
Taylor, who will play for the Welsh Fire, took over coaching positions after she announced their international resignation in September 2019.
The franchise tournament with 100 balls per side was supposed to have started last year, but was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.
All eight franchises have both Both men’s and women’s teams are represented, with the two competitions taking place side by side.
« Coaching is the future for me, but testing a little water – am I good enough, do I still have what it takes? I don’t really have it feel like I have a lot to lose by playing, I just get it. » to have fun, « said Taylor.
» I could have the worst tournament in the world, but I know I’ll probably love every minute. If I have my full-time job now, it’s my grounder, my feet are firmly on the ground. I can enjoy my cricket now. «
Taylor, who has won two world championships with England, is not sure if she will wear the wicketkeeping gloves for the Welsh Fire, which also includes Australian Beth Mooney. </ The 31-year-old is delighted with the opportunity to play again and said working with Australian captain Meg Lanning was an added bonus.
« The chance to be there in the first year of the hundred is there Really a no-brainer, « said Taylor.
» A tie for me was playing with Meg Lanning, I’ve wanted that for a number of years. I’m sick of fetching her balls instead of being at the bottom of the non-striker.
« Cant wait to work with Beth Mooney, she’s a great player. If I run around the field I will don’t really complain because I enjoy it. I’m just really looking forward to it. « »
The Hundred aims to attract new audiences to cricket to secure its future, but critics have a need for one more new format in a jam-packed calendar.
The competition kicks off with a women’s game as Oval Invincibles host Manchester Originals on July 21 and the men’s game the next day.
