Two of the best AFL players on the Sunshine Coast are doing everything they can to give themselves the best chance in this year’s AFLW draft.
Maroochydore Roos players Maggie Harmer and Bella Smith both play in Bond University’s QAFLW competition.

The duo hope to be one of 61 young athletes who would like to be selected by one of the 14 AFLW clubs.
Harmer, who plays in the center-back for the Roos said it was the ultimate goal and one that she has had for a while.
« It’s a tremendous goal of mine and one I’ve been working toward over the past few years, » said Harmer.
« It would be the icing on the cake to be on an AFLW team list and against Compete for the best. «
Smith, who is mostly a midfielder, said there was definitely something in his sights but understood how much work there was still to be done.
To be honest, I don’t have too much thought about it as I still have a lot of short term goals that I’m headed toward right now. ? Smith said.
« I’ll definitely focus on that when I’m further down, but right now I’m just taking it day in and day out. »
« It’s still going to be a tremendous accomplishment, I want me just don’t excel. «
Both players are part of the NAB AFLW Academy for the second year in a row.
» It requires us to attend different camps throughout the year that include training, games and even concentration include our health and wellbeing. » Said Harmer.
Harmer knows how inspiring it is to see players drafted into the AFLW by Maroochydore AFC.
« It’s so positive for us girls coming through the ranks and striving to to get into the position they are all in, « she said.
In particular, Belle Dawes, selected 15th in the 2019 design by the Brisbane Lions, is starting to make a name for herself in the AFLW competition.
Smith said it was amazing to see her play well against the best players in the country.
« It’s great, Belle has worked so hard where she is now and it’s so good for her to return to the club where everyone looks up to her for who she is. » ?? s achieved so far, ???? Smith said.
« She’s one of those players who’s level-headed enough to get everyone involved. So it’s great to have the opportunity to play by her side where she can. » share their knowledge. “????
Both Harmer and Smith will try to lead their teammates to another victory in the QAFLW competition when they face Wilston Grange on April 10th.
