World news – « Really Bad Injury »: Matt Rowell’s 12-week Gold Coast Suns knee injury

Gold Coast Suns prodigy Matt Rowell set the AFL on fire in the early stages of last season, but his bad luck continued brutally.

AFL: Gold Coast sensation Matt Rowell finished the opening game the Suns with a knee injury. Fears grew that he might have an extended stint on the sidelines.

Gold Coast Suns Matt Rowell showed he was a real superstar talent in the opening rounds of his AFL career, but the 19-year-old has one suffered another horror injury.

The injury added 12.11 (83) to 8.10 (58) defeats as the West Coast Eagles ran away for the 25-point win in the final quarter.

After a shoulder injury derailed his 2020 season, the young gun didn’t last long as he played another long stint on the sidelines.

It was in the first quarter when Rowell was attacked from behind by the Eagles’ Zac Langdon, with the young star falling to his knee and in significant pain.

Rowell walked off the field but was seen on crutches with his knee in braces at halftime. </ The early reports weren't good when Fox Footy border driver Matthew Pavlich reported, “They fear a really bad injury.”

At halftime, Fox Footy was talking about the injury with reports that it was a PCL or a posterior cruciate ligament injury that would take « six weeks on crutches and six weeks of rehab ».

The PCL is most commonly injured in a car crash when the knee hits the dash.

« It’s serious enough , but what we say now will keep him away from what we can say now for a couple of weeks, but we don’t think it’s too important, « he said.

While the AFL are all hoping the injury isn’t like that is bad, as initially feared after Rowell missed most of his rookie season with a serious shoulder injury.

« It’s such a shame, » said Brad Johnson. “It was just the pressure coming through, all the weight fell on the left knee. They also had Langdon, another 80 kg squeeze. There you can see Matty Rowell in braces and starting rehab again to get yourself right for the second half of the season, fingers crossed. « 

Garry Lyon added, » It’s a terrible situation for a kid who tore the game apart and we thought we were privy to something pretty out of the ordinary and he has hardly played a game since then.  » « You almost feel robbed as Footy fans, » said Sarah Jones. « Her heart also goes to Matty, who just wants to dive into his football career. But the Gold Coast Suns Club, who depend on him so much to make a difference. And Footy fans, who feel that this could be a unique talent that we see here. « 

Social media reacted quickly when the AFL looked frustrated and the superstar in the production again early on went out of the running.

Though the Gold Coast was devoid of its brightest star, the suns took them to the Eagles and battled down from three early goals to take the lead in the third quarter.

But it wasn’t enough when the Eagles posted a 12.11 (83) to 8.10 (58) win last quarter.
