Rangers defender Jacob Trouba did not return for the third time on Tuesday night after suffering an upper body injury at the beginning of the game after losing 5-2 to the Devils.
When The 26-year-old has to miss some time, the Rangers’ defense has dropped again by three skaters, with Jack Johnson (groin) still in everyday life and K’Andre Miller recently joining him with an upper body injury. Brendan Smith skated in his first game on Tuesday since an upper body injury earlier this month.
The Blueshirts are also without their top scorer Artemi Panarin, who missed his second straight game since joining on February 10 The Bruins suffered a lower body injury in their 3-2 loss to the Bruins.
Trouba has made two assists in his second season with the Rangers in 13 games this season. He’s mostly skated alongside Miller but was paired with Smith on Tuesday night in the rookie absence. The Rangers won a single-game season high of 36 faceoffs in loss, taking 36 points out of 73, (49.3 percent).
