World news – Pirates send RHP Joe Musgrove to Padres to find potential customers and receive Mets Catcher in the 3-team deal

The Pittsburgh Pirates have reached a three-team deal with pitcher Joe Musgrove « San Diego Padres » is being sent to receive a « large package of prospects » including a center fielder from the Padres and a switch-hitting catcher from the New York Mets.

Headlining the return from San Diego is Hudson Head, 19, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound center fielder who was ranked number 8 on Padres’ system by Baseball America and named him  » slim, « labeled. nervous athlete who is a plus runner, has explosive bat speed, and is ambidextrous. “Head throwing and punching left was a 2019 third round draft pick that signed a record $ 3 million from high school.

The eye-catcher is Endy Rodriguez, a 20-year-old who signed with the Mets for $ 10,000 from the Dominican Republic in July 2018. MLB.com called Rodriguez “an athletic and agile defender who moves well behind the plate, with solid catching and throwing skills that should continue to improve. « 

Musgrove, a 28-year-old right-handed man, is returning to his hometown of San Diego and joining a rotation that Yu Darvish and Blake Snell have been added to this off-season. Musgrove was 18-26 with an ERA of 4.23 in 58 starts over three seasons for the Pirates since he was acquired in Gerrit Cole dealers as part of the return of the Houston Astro in January 2018.

Musgrove was the starter on the Pirates’ opening day last season when he went 1-5 over eight starts with a 3.86 ERA, the team’s best 55 strokes and 16 walks in 39 2/3 innings. He spent time on the list of injured with tricepsitis and ankle pain but returned to hit double-digit strikes on each of his last two starts.
