The Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to pitcher Jameson Taillon for four prospects to the New York Yankees to send to swap the right-hander who was once considered her ace.

In return, the pirates acquired right-handed Miguel Yajure and Roansy Contreras, infielder Maikol Escotto and outfielder Canaan Smith. Baseball America finished with Yajure (22) the number 7 of the Yankees. The MLB pipeline ranks Yajune # 15, Contreras # 19, and Smith # 21 in the Yankees system.

The deal is the third one last month through Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington, who distributed all-star first baseman Josh Bell to the Washington Nationals for pitcher Wil Crowe and Eddy Yean and right-handed Joe on Christmas Eve Musgrove sent Padres to San Diego in a three-team deal with the New York Mets for centerfielder Hudson Head, catcher Edna Rodriguez and pitchers David Bednar, Omar Cruz and Drake Fellows.

Taillon avoided arbitration by settling a salary of $ 2.25 million for 2021. He has one more year of arbitration before becoming a free agent in 2023.

29-year-old Taillon was number 2 in the 2010 MLB Draft from Woodlands High School, Texas, signing the second highest bonus ever for $ 6.5 million.

His path to the majors was hampered by injuries as Taillon underwent surgery on Tommy John in April 2014 and hernia surgery in July 2015, and was also hit on the back of the head by a comeback.

Taillon also had testicular cancer surgery in May 2017 and then returned on the path to an 8-7 record with 4.44 ERA five weeks later

Taillon started 82 games in four seasons with the Pirates and went with 3.67 ERA between 29 and 24. His best season was 2018 when he went with 3.20 ERA between 14 and 10, the team with starts ( 32), innings (191) and strikeouts (179) led and threw two full games, including a shutout.

Taillon followed suit by starting his first opening day and going 2-3 in seven starts in 2019 with 4.10 ERA before being excluded from pain in his elbow. He needed a second operation on Tommy John in August and missed the final season rehabilitating at PNC Park all summer.
