Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal and Game of Thrones actress Bella Ramsey were cast as Joel and Ellie, two survivors living in a post-apocalyptic world, in HBO’s upcoming video game adaptation, The Last of Us.
Set 20 years after the destruction of modern civilization, The Last of Us focuses on the relationship between Joel, a smuggler in this new world, and Ellie, a teenage girl who may hold the key to curing a deadly pandemic. Joel, a die-hard survivor, is hired to smuggle the 14-year-old girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts out as a small job soon turns into a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they cross the US and depend on each other for survival. “
Pedro Pascal is fresh from his role in Wonder Woman 1984 and is expected to return as a Mandalorian on the hit Disney series. The Last of Us series marks his return to HBO after starring as Oberyn Martell in the hugely successful Game of Thrones.
Ramsey also played as Lyanna Mormont, a young boy, in the final seasons of Game of Thrones but a wild northerner who was completely loyal to Jon Snow. She is also known for portraying Mildred Hubble in The Worst Witch, a role she had in the show’s first three seasons before leaving last year.
Neil Druckmann, the writer and director of both Last of Us Games, celebrated the news on Twitter, saying, “We’re absolutely thrilled to be adding Bella to the TLoU family!”
The Last of Us sold over 1.3 million units in its first week and 17 as of April 2018 Millions. As of 2019, it’s around $ 20 million. The sequel to The Last of Us Part II video game sold over four million copies worldwide on the opening weekend alone.
Craig Mazin, creator of HBO’s acclaimed limited series Chernobyl, will write the script and collaborate with Neil Druckmann, writer and Creative Director of the game, acting as executive producer on the TV adaptation. Beanpole director Kantemir Balagov will lead the pilot.
