Tim Paine met a precious half century to prop up Tasmania on the first day of their clash with NSW against Sheffield Shield.
The test skipper was undefeated at Bellerive Oval with 61 stumps on Saturday when the home team was 7 -258 after being sent to the racket.
The Tigers’ top order started against a strong NSW attack, but only Paine and Matthew Wade, 57, recorded half a century.
« Each Any time you’re sent to Bellerive and hit over 250, you probably say you’ve had a pretty decent day, « said Paine.
He shared a 67-run stand for Beau Webster, 30, for the sixth wicket after the pair and their team got together in a shaky position between 5 and 171.

Paine had a happy break late in the day when he was dropped into Starc’s slip.

Trent Copeland worked hard early and finished at 2-67, including the scalp of openers Jordan Silk (10) and Charlie Wakim (28).
The Blues lost Paceman Sean Abbott early in the day when he split the webbing in his hand and caught his own bowling.
Test spinner Nathan Lyon (1-43) took Wade’s large wicket in the middle session when the Veteran to the first slip came.
Tasmania, chasing its first win of the Shield season without injured Ben McDermott and Nathan Ellis, crept to 1-63 at lunch.
Runner-up Blues has David Warner, Josh Hazlewood and Moises Henriques rested, but Daniel Hughes resumed his last mat ch missed with a shoulder problem.
