A goal from Tipperary’s Orla O’Dwyer helped Brisbane Lions to secure a spot in the AFLW Grand Final next Saturday.

The Lions defeated Collingwood in a tense semi-final at the Gabba in Brisbane with four points 45 (7-3) -41 (6-5). The defeated semi-finalists included Cavan’s Aishling Sheridan and Sarah Rowe from Mayo.

The latter was very unlucky not to score a goal – that’s worth six points. The oval ball jumped just inches from the goal line, but bounced off the danger zone and the chance was lost.

In the other preliminary final, the Adelaide Crows beat the Melbourne Demons 33 (5-3) -19 (1-9). You will make the decision next weekend. Clares Ailish Considine was an emergency reserve in the Crow Command.

Dublin All-Ireland winners Lauren Magee, Niamh McEvoy and Sinead Goldrick were on the Demons squad this season, but they missed the game with a hamstring injury

Other than one goal, O had ‘Dwyer had 11 exits while Sarah Rowe had seven exits.

The Crows are chasing their third AFLW title while Brisbane is hoping there will be a third luck in the third final.

They lost to Adelaide in the first AFLW Grand Final 2017 and to the Western Bulldogs the following year.

Adelaide was the dominant team in the competition this season, finishing the provisional home and away leagues as leaders.

In addition to their victory in 2017, they also triumphed in 2019. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, no Grand Final was held last year.
