World news – Nuno Santo on the dire consequences if football has to stop


With coronavirus cases increasing in both public and sporting disciplines, Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Santo has issued a sharp warning in case football has to stop.

The Portuguese have gone this far , to point out that the composition of the game as we know it will change, possibly leading to even further calls for a European Super League for the big clubs, which inevitably leads to many lower division teams leaving the Out of business.

« I’m afraid that football as we know it now would not be the same if the decision was to be made, » he was quoted in the Daily Mail.

« This is mine biggest fear. The schedule would go crazy, it would be impossible to end the league season and think about the European Championship. So my feeling is that if we stopped everything would change and a new [version] of football would come.

“There would probably be a Super League, there would probably be other competitions, and then it would be a question which clubs will survive. It’s a tough decision. «
