What was essentially a foregone conclusion went official on Thursday night: Nuggets franchise cornerstone Nikola Jokic was named for his third straight All-Star game and first as a starter.
He will be the first Nuggets player to start an All-Star game since Carmelo Anthony in 2011, and the third since 1976/77 to be selected for three consecutive All-Star games along with Alex English and David Thompson.
He will compete for the mid-season NBA show on March 7th in Atlanta along with all-star starters LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Steph Curry and Luka Doncic from the Western Conference and Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo , Joel Embiid and Bradley Beal qualify and Kyrie Irving from the east.

Given the persistent restrictions and risks that an All-Star game brings, Jokic was asked two weeks ago if he would like to participate.
And while he joked that he would appreciate any rest he could get, in the end he said it was an honor for him to play in the exhibition.

Jokic, whose stats are all career highlights in the first 28 games of the season, played at MVP pace despite the Nuggets’ 15-13 record. With 27.4 points per game, Jokic is well on the way to cracking his best season so far (20.1), and his rebound (11.1 RPG) and passing game (8.6 Acts) are career bests too.
In his last 10 games, Jokic has scored at least 35 points in five of them.
