World news – Missing children found after police report

Two children who disappeared at their home in east Sydney earlier this morning were found following a public tip.

Two children missing in Sydney’s eastern suburbs were found after a member of the public gave police a lead.

A man and two children were spotted making their way to Panania train station this morning and a member of the public contacted the police.

The man was taken to hospital for an examination and the children, Basten Dowlut, 10, and his younger sister Bowie Dowlut, 4, will be reunited with the family.

Police today issued an amber alarm to the children after they were allegedly taken out of the family home by their father overnight.

Police said the children were at their parents’ home in Darling Point around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday when their father, Dennis Dowlut, allegedly said he was going to Melbourne.

At the time of the alert, Basten and sister Bowie Dowlut were last seen in a white SSangYong SUV heading for Melbourne in the early hours of Thursday.

Police said despite protests from the children’s mother, 47-year-old Dowlut packed the family into the car and drove off before allegedly forcing them out of the car around 3 a.m. in Alexandria.

She then contacted the police. Police said in a statement this morning that they had « extreme concerns » about the children’s safety.
