Gudinski, a prominent figure in his country’s music scene, died peacefully in his sleep, according to his Mushroom Group label House in Melbourne.

He said: “My friend Michael Gudinski was the first, last and always a musician. I’ve traveled the world for the past fifty years and have never met a better promoter.

« Michael always spoke in a deep, rumbling voice, and the words came out so quickly that half the time I needed an interpreter . But I could hear him as clearly as a bell when he said, « Bruce, I’ve covered you. » And he always did.

« He was loud, always on the move, intentionally (and unintentionally) funny, and deeply soulful. Artists from around the world will remember him every time they step on Australian soil.

« My deepest condolences go to his wife and partner Sue and the whole Gudinski family, of whom he was so proud. »
