World news – Micah Richards’ homage to Man City legend Colin Bell

Tuesday night brought the saddest news to Manchester City when it became known that one of their best players, Colin Bell, had died at the age of 74.

England international Bell played 501 games between 1966 and 1979 for the club and scored 153 goals.

One of the stands at the Etihad Stadium was named after him to cement his legend. In this grandstand he helped City win the FA Cup, the Cup Winners’ Cup, the League Cup and the old titles of the first and second division during his time at the club.

The current City team will pay their own tribute, when they play Man United in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday night:

The Man City players will wear retro number eight jerseys in Colin Bell’s honor at Old Trafford tonight.

« He never will « Richards said on BBC Radio 5 Live, quoted by BBC Sport.

» Sometimes when someone is this great you expect them to be a little arrogant, but he was the exact opposite – one of the nicest and most sincere people I have ever met.

It is clear that, despite the sadness, Bell’s legend will live on in a new generation and he will rightly be fondly remembered.
