Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg joins the growing number of stars in love in Australia and plans to move here with his wife and children later this year.

Spenser’s confidential star will settle on the Gold Coast for five months to make a film in the second half of the year.

Wahlberg revealed his plans to The Saturday Telegraph after falling in love with the country on a flight visit to Australia last month, where he signed a deal to bring his Wahlburg restaurant chain Down Under.

« Hopefully I can take my family to Australia for four to five months, make a movie on the Gold Coast and enjoy this beautiful country. »

Wahlberg will attend a casting call for Tinseltown stars including Liam Hemsworth, Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy and Natalie Portman, who are living in Australia or temporarily calling home during the coronavirus pandemic.

He is keen to have his wife, former Victoria’s Secret model Rhea Durham, and their four children join him while he is filming. Details of the film remain a closely guarded secret.

« My wife couldn’t go on a trip (last month), » he said. « I think if my wife went down there (to Australia) she would fall in love with her. »

Wahlberg has already signed a $ 50 million deal with Sam Mustaca, owner of United Cinemas in Sydney, to open 15 Hollywood-themed Wahlburgers restaurants nationwide.

The restaurants are located on or near United Cinemas in places like Circular Quay, Narellan, Warriewood, and Katoomba in NSW. Eldorado at Indooroopilly to the west of Brisbane; and Craigieburn in Victoria.

« Mark asked us to postpone the opening of the first restaurant on Circular Quay until he gets here in the spring, » said Mustaca.

« Of course we’re delighted because it will be great to have him here for the opening party. We have already put the champagne on hold. »

Plans for the Australian Wahlburgers restaurants are underway. Wahlberg’s chef Paul is already designing a new Australian menu that will be added to the regular items on the Wahlburgers reality TV show.

He is said to be wrestling with a new concept for the chain that includes beetroot, pineapple and a fried egg. Fish burgers and chicken schnitzel burgers will also be new on the menu.

« The response we received after the restaurant deal was announced has been phenomenal, » said Mustaca. « The Australians have already hugged him.

« Once he’s here with his family and sees how wonderful it is, I wouldn’t be surprised if he followed in the footsteps of other Hollywood stars and bought a house here. »
