An appeal by ex-Senator David Leyonhjelm against Senator Sarah Hanson-Young’s $ 120,000 defamation award was dismissed by federal court.
The Green Senator successfully sued her former House of Lords colleague his statements that she « stop insulting men » and others portraying her as a hypocrite and a misandist.
She questioned interviews he did with Sky News between June 28 and July 2, 2018 , the radio station 3AW in Melbourne and the ABC program 7.30.
Mr Leyonhjelm believed that she had used the words in Parliament that « all men are rapists », which she denied – that would be an « absurd » statement .
On Wednesday, Judge Michael Wigney dismissed the appeal, saying, « None of Mr. Leyonhjelm’s grounds for appeal have been shown to be well founded ».
