Fred Kast has been the Warriors’ official scorekeeper for 58 years, but after Friday’s competition against the Los Angeles Clippers, the longtime player at the goalscorer’s table will step down.
He is being served by both the Golden State staff as well as be sorely missed by players including Klay Thompson. The five-time all-star is unable to participate in the game as he is rehabilitating from a torn Achilles. So he went to Twitter to thank Kast and wish him all the best.
Kast has recorded almost every Warriors home game since the 1963/64 season when he first took the position. In a tenure that spanned from Cow Palace to the Chase Center, Kast witnessed 23 playoff appearances and four NBA titles. Now, 81-year-old Kast will step down, even though his retirement date was not planned . Kast told the New York Times a combination of COVID-19-related logs, and his wife’s health helped him realize it was time.
Upon his departure, President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts also joined one Answer asked, the Kast tweeted for his dedication and dedication over the decades, saying the goalscorer was « the best ».
