The voice starts tonight with an unexpected twist in its first round of combat. For weeks coaches Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, John Legend and Nick Jonas have been listening to the blind auditions thoughtfully and competing against each other to build their teams. But in the Monday night episode, fans will notice that Kelly is missing in her red swivel chair.
Last Monday, shortly after the last Voice episode aired, Kelly posted a short clip on Instagram teasing the news that her seat would be temporarily occupied by a visiting coach. « Where’s Kelly? » John asks Blake and Nick in the video. Meanwhile, Kelly can be heard on a phone call saying, « Thank you for doing this for me. » But who was Kelly talking to? Well, it was none other than country star Kelsea Ballerini.
The Tennessee native sits for Kelly during the bout rounds. According to host Carson Daly, Kelly was under the weather and had to miss some show recordings.
« Unfortunately our own Kelly Clarkson didn’t feel good this week, » he says at the beginning of the upcoming episode. « Kelly is staying home but she is watching the battles from afar and we were very fortunate to have her good friend and our good friend [Kelsea Ballerini]. »
On social media, Kelsea shared what it was like to temporarily switch to the other The Voice coaches.
« When @kellyclarkson calls and asks you to keep your seat warm, you are putting in all your years of being their superfan, » she wrote alongside a promo video. “Thanks to @johnlegend @nickjonas and ole pops @blakeshelton 😂 for making me feel part of the @nbcthevoice family. I’m #teamkelly forever … see you at the fight rounds! «
Kelly posted another clip from The Voice on Instagram, confirming that she wasn’t feeling well as the fight round episodes were filmed. Still, she made it clear that she appreciated Kelsea’s help in the meantime. « Thank you @KelseaBallerini for sitting for me while I was feeling under the weather! » She wrote. « I know my team is in good hands with you !! You won’t want to miss it! ! The bouts begin next week on @NBCTheVoice! ”
While there is no official word on when Kelly will return, according to GoldDerby.com she will likely be back in » several weeks. « Based on previous seasons, the bout rounds can range between Three and five episodes last. Given that Carson mentioned that Kelsea “sat for Kelly during the fights,” it might be fair to assume that Kelly will be out for at least another week keep an eye out for a possible date for Kelly’s return to The Voice and update this post when we know more.
