World news – Jared Goff sounds pretty excited to be off the Rams

The Rams wanted to get rid of Jared Goff, and in the end that was fine with the former number 1 overall.

« As a quarterback, as the guy who’s probably the most important position on the field, if you being in a place that you don’t want and that wants to get away from you, the feeling is mutual, « Goff told the Los Angeles Times. « You don’t want to be in the wrong place. It became increasingly clear that this was the case. »

And it led Goff to – along with a number of draft picks – against long-time quarterback Matthew Stafford on the Lions was sold.

The deal won’t get official until March, but it marks the end of a remarkably rapid fall for Goff in Los Angeles – one that even Goff wonders about.

« This is right now the hard part. Are you trying to find out when did this happen? « Goff said when the Rams decided to make a change. » These are all conversations I can or cannot have, and I’m trying to figure it out. This is the conversation.  » After Los Angeles voted Goff in the overall standings for the first time in 2016, he and head coach Sean McVay led the Rams into the playoffs in 2017, Goff’s second season and the 2018 Super Bowl.

But Goff’s production slipped in the last two Playoffs went down, and the Rams lost to the Packers in the divisional playoffs.

Goff’s future in Los Angeles became even bleaker shortly after the season when General Manager Les Snead was as noncommittal as Team Goff saw.

« Jared Goff is an Aries right now, » said Snead 10 days after the season ended. « So what’s the date? Jan 26th »

And he wouldn’t be a Ram for much longer, despite the $ 134 million four-year extension he signed in 2019 (with a guaranteed $ 110 million ), didn’t start until 2021.

But its production declined with the new deal, and according to a report in Pro Football Talk, McVay got “fixated” on Stafford.

Stafford, who turns 33 this week, asked after another disappointing season for the Detroit Lions, he’s played in just three postseason games – all losses – since the Lions made him number 1 on the 2009 draft.

And while the Rams have been far more successful, must They are now building a team around Stafford with somewhat limited funds. Goff will continue to count $ 22.2 million toward the Rams’ 2021 salary cap, and Stafford is due $ 20 million, so Los Angeles has $ 42.2 million US dollars invested in the QB spot, with G Funding cap is likely to shrink or stagnate.

« You are starting to feel, I don’t want to say that ‘relief’ is the word, but you feel happy, grateful and ready for a new opportunity, » said Goff. « That’s the greatest feeling that overwhelmed me that night and even the days that followed. »
