Mr. Mulvaney from Virginia, who once spoke of his « thick skin » as the former acting Chief of Staff of the White House under Trump, announced that he was going after the violent rampage that killed four people yesterday , can no longer stay in his role.

« I can’t stay here, not after yesterday. You can’t look at that yesterday and think I want to be a part of it in some way, shape or form, » said he told CNBC News today.

He announced that he had informed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of his decision to resign and believes other members of the Trump administration will do the same.

« It was unforgivable and inexcusable , and I just don’t want to be part of an administration that helped, « he said.

» There is no President of the United States who encourages people to rise up, and essentially into one There is an armed uprising trying to prevent our government’s constitutional process from going ahead.

« What happened yesterday was uniquely terrible within this government, » he said, adding that the spectacle likely ended Trump’s political career.

« He will go down in history now, not as a president with a great economy, not as a president with the lowest unemployment rate among black Americans. He will essentially go down in history as the president who encouraged people to stand up. « The government.

» This historic punishment will be there, and there may also be criminal penalties after what happened  » he said.

Mr Mulvaney’s resignation is a far cry from the glowing portrayal he gave the President during an interview with the Sunday Independent in June 2019 when Trump visited his Doonbeg Golf Resort in Co Clare. </ During the interview, he described his job as "fun and intense" while realizing that he needed "thick skin" to survive the job.

He was sworn in as the Northern Ireland Ambassador in May, but he could Pay only one visit here and in the UK due to Covid-19 restrictions.

But he said he will continue to be a private individual in Northern Ireland.

His resignation follows that of Wei’s deputy national security advisor Outside House, Matt Pottinger, and two top aides to First Lady Melania Trump, including First Lady’s Chief of Staff Stephanie Grisham, and White House Social Secretary Rickie Niceta.

According to Reuters, the press secretary for the White House is said to be House, Sarah Matthews, submitted her resignation due to the protests yesterday.

Mr. Mulvaney spoke to Cormac Ó hEadhra tonight on RTE Radio One’s Drivetime program, calling yesterday’s events in the Capitol an « armed insurrection » .

He said, « good people cannot be associated with what happened, » and his colleagues are equally appalled by what happened.

« Everyone I’ve been in with the administration are stunned, « he said, adding, » None of us thought that democracy was so fragile that it allows for what happened yesterday. «

The storming of the Capitol building by hundreds of Trump-A supporters, while Congress officially confirmed President-elect Joe Biden as president, has been condemned worldwide as a brutal attack on democracy.

Secretary of State Simon Coveney called the protests an attempt to « overthrow a free and fair election ».

In a tweet during the Wednesday night protests, he said, « Shocking & scenes in Washington DC are deeply saddened – we have to call this what it is: a deliberate attack by a seated President & Democracy trying to overthrow its supporters a free & fair election.

One woman died after being shot dead by police in close combat, and three others died after medical emergencies during the chaos.

When the building was stormed, members of the House of Representatives dived into the chamber floor to protect themselves from the crowd.

Despite the hand-to-hand combat, members of Congress finally confirmed Biden’s election victory in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Trump finally agreed to an orderly transfer of power on January 20, despite reiterating his unsubstantiated claim that the election had been rigged.

« I disagree with the outcome of the election at all and the facts confirm me, » it said yesterday in a statement calling his chaotic presidency « the greatest first term in the president’s history ».
