World news – How Drew Barrymore’s platform boots single-handedly revived morning talk show style

Lee Harris, stylist of The Drew Barrymore Show, spoke about Barrymore's fashion inspirations and the pair of Jimmy Choo boots that set the tone for the show's aesthetic.

It is 9 a.m. and when I turn on the TV in early September, I feel nostalgic. Drew Barrymore is in front and in the middle. I’m not watching « E.T. » « The Wedding Singer » or « 50 First Dates », it is the actress herself when she debuted her morning talk show « The Drew Barrymore Show ».

To describe the show would mean that it feels like a hug, as cheesy as that may be. Barrymore is cheerful, smiling, and playful in a year when warmth and positivity are most needed. Plus, she’s open-minded and seems to be in her truest self as she holds back tears while interviewing her very first guests, fellow Charlie’s Angels and Partners in Crime and Life, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz.

It’s clear that she doesn’t play a role in her latest project, and part of that authenticity comes from her clothes.

Barrymore sets a new tone for the fashion of the morning show without the typical, colorful, figure-hugging dress and patent leather pumps Patent leather.

« We wanted to do something completely different, more like Drew’s style, which is very much the way they live and work, » the show’s stylist Lee Harris told FN. “We don’t create any kind of character.”

After you tune in to a few episodes, you’ll immediately notice the 1970s influence on their looks. Harris said references included Annie Hall, Bianca Jagger, Shelley Hack, and Jaclyn Smith’s Charlie’s Angels series costumes, as well as his third grade art teacher.

« We’re both 1970s kids and have one A soft spot for this era. We just enjoyed collecting the pieces that are completely contemporary, nothing is vintage, and recreating the moment that we both love so much. «

According to Harris, who has worked with Barrymore since then, one of Barrymore’s » Charlie’s Angels « costumes from the early 2000s with flared jeans, a velvet vest, blazer and tie was a template for her talk show hosting style Time.

Earthy tones of rust, camel, brown and saturated vegetable tones fill the specific palette in which Harris works. These colors can be found in Barrymore’s extensive wardrobe with A-line skirts from Prada, culottes from Michael Kors, Marc Jacob silk blouses and Zara scarves.

What also set the tone for this curated wardrobe was a pair of Jimmy Choo Boots that Barrymore had in her own closet from 2016. Harris described the shoe as the perfect boot – a suede platform with a narrow ankle and a narrow heel.

« These boots were really that important to establishing the basic look of our show because you can do all of these culottes Don’t do without these shoes, « Harris said.

The stylist explained that prior to the start of the series, he went to Jimmy Choo and asked to redesign the style in different colors and sign the company. “I will be forever grateful to Jimmy Choo. Nothing would really look like this if we didn’t have these. It just kind of elevates the view of another era and a completely different mood. “

For Barrymore and Harris, the fashion of the show is another level of joy and visual involvement that the audience can engage in. After each episode, The Drew Barrymore Show Instagram account illuminates your ensemble, disassembles each piece, and then provides accessible options for the show viewers to shop for.

Harris personally shops for each piece and searches department stores and retailers sold by Banana Republic and Anne Taylor to the mainstays Saks Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue.

In addition to Jimmy Choo, Barrymore wears Saint Laurent lace-up boots and styles by Miu Miu and Gianvito Rossi. Almost every shoe has a platform because it is the star’s best silhouette. Don’t be surprised to see the same pair on Barrymore, as the recycled look is also part of Harris’ creative practice.

« The whole concept of just wearing something is kind of a thing of the past, » he explained. « I don’t think this is a modern way of thinking about dressing and it is certainly not accessible to the average person. I like the idea of revising things and repeating things. » Harris added, « Mine The main goal is not to follow trends. It’s mostly about making her feel comfortable, finding clothes that flatter her, and staying in the mood that we have established. Fashion is such a tough business and there are lots of people telling you to do a lot of different things. And so you really have to be true to your vision. That’s what we do here. We try to do our own thing and not be what other people want or what we do in others See places. «

While it’s a cliché to say that Barrymore is » just like us, « it’s true. She raves about her famous guests, gets up on dates and sometimes puts on pants that just don’t fit.

« Let me stick with you … I think I’ve been eating my stress lately », she wrote on Instagram. « For anyone who has to put an extender on your pants, just know that I feel you. »
