On this day in the horror story, Drew Barrymore was born in 1975 in Culver City, California. Barrymore played the doomed Casey Becker in Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson’s meta-slasher classic Scream. And also killed it for three seasons of Netflix’s zombie comedy Santa Clarita Diet. Barrymore’s other genre contributions include Waxwork II: Lost in Time, Doppelganger, Altered States, E.T. the alien, the fire starter, the cat’s eye, Batman Forever and also Donnie Darko.
Other classic roles are Poison Ivy, Ever After, driving a car with boys, confessions of a dangerous spirit, Charlie’s Angels, 50 first dates, He just doesn’t stand on you, Going the Distance, Blended and also The Wedding Singer.
In addition to his work as executive producer on projects such as Donnie Darko, Santa Clarita Diet and Charlie’s Angels, Barrymore directed the roller derby comedy Whip It with Elliot Page (Juno). She is currently hosting her own talk show on CBS, appropriately named The Drew Barrymore Show. She recently repeated her role as Casey from Scream.
