World news – Headache during rush hour as flooding causes traffic to jam for miles on the Sydney motorway

Traffic is secured by 3 miles in a way as motorists are advised to allow additional travel time.

Motorists in Sydney have been warned of significant delays due to flooding closing the lanes of the M5.

One lane in each direction is closed due to flooding in the Cooks River Tunnel in Kyeemagh on Wednesday morning.

Emergency teams are on site but traffic is heavy in both directions and drivers are advised to allow extra time for their travel.

Live Traffic Sydney advised motorists to drive into town on the M5, Marsh Street or get off on Princess Highway or use the M8 tunnel instead.

Meanwhile, a road weather alert has been issued for the eastern suburbs of Sydney as rain is expected to fall over the city.

« Slippery and flooded Roads will make driving conditions dangerous in the eastern suburbs on Wednesday, « warned the Bureau of Meteorology.
